A Closer Look | Needles and Nails Brighton

So last friday I received a call and returned home to my mother ship. Well no not really but its about as close as you could get. I actually went and got my nails done at 'Needles and Nails Brighton'.
A recently opened nail art studio in Brighton's North Laines. 6 Kensington Gardens to to precise.
As the name suggests its not just Nails they have to offer, they were primarily a piercing and tattoo studio which has now branched out into doing nails and some other beauty treatments.

After speaking with the owner Matt I jumped at the chance to pop in and have a nosey around and have my nails done. If you have read my blog before or glanced at my instagram you will know how much I love all things nail related. But strangley I have never actualy had my nails done by anyone else!
First things first is finding the place. Its not hard you just need to keep your eyes open. They don't have a front door of their own, you go in through a shop called 'Loaded' and then when inside go upstairs. Just follow the sounds of the tattoo machines!

Nestled next to the tattoo and piercing studios is the nail studio. Now since these photos where taken they have added to the walls and made some changes decor wise so definitely check out their instagram for more up to date pictures.
As I sat down I was greeted by dolly the dog. I am a big lover of small dogs and I was fawning all over the poor little thing. I was thoroughly engrossed with playing with her and chatting with Dolly (one of the tattoo artists who has the same name, not the dog!) and Matt that my waiting time flew by.

I then met the lovely Christa who is one of the nail artists. She also has a blog if you wish to check out some more of her amazing designs. I went in not knowing what I wanted. Just that I wanted to try something that I hadn't attempted myself. There are plenty of books and pictures around should you need a little inspiration but if you have a specific design in mind that is fine too.

I settled on a multi coloured non traditional camouflage design. Using mint green, pale blue and a neon purple with splashes of black. Christa is so talented at what she does and such a lovely person to talk too. I am in love with what she came up with for me.

Once my nails where completed I intended to sit for a couple of minutes before getting my things together but I stayed for a while longer. Its too easy to just hang out! Its a busy place so there is always something happening.

I eventually tore myself away but I plan on visiting again soon. I can't recommend them enough, If you are curious about nail art or already obsessed like me I would say you have to go and check them out. Full details on all the services and treatments on offer can be found on their webiste.
If you have any queries or questions don't hesitate to get in touch, they are a friendly bunch!

An in depth post on my nails can be fond here.

Photo Diary | Edinburgh Charity Fashion Show 2013

Two weeks ago now I attended the Edinburgh Charity Fashion Show. It is put on and organised by the students of Edinburgh University. One of whom is my twin sister. In order to show my support I trekked up from Brighton to Edinburgh for a few days. Also to see my friends and family but the show was why I picked that particular weekend as I didn't get to go last year.

There is no real reason for the selection of pictures in this post. It purely came down to including non blurry shots. There was rather dim lighting and I am severely impaired when it comes to using my camera so these are the only ones which turned out ok.

The show featured both women's and menswear but I seemed to only be able to get a decent shot when the boys came out without their tops?! Im into going to question how that came about too deeply but I am not complaining!

It was a great show that was really professionally executed and put together. Well done to my sister Sophie and the rest of the ECFS team!

I also posted here if you want to check out what my sister and I wore on the night.

Top, Skirt and Boots : Topshop
Earings: River Island

When I was back home last week I went with my mum and friends to the Edinburgh Charity Fashion Show. My sister helped in organising it so we where there to show our support. I really didn't feel like dressing up all fancy (shock) so I just went for the usual all black with the addition of my current favourite jacket. Which I got for a bargain price in the Urban Outfitters sale.

I also wore my now deceased Topshop Katz boots. The buckle sadly broke a couple of days after this picture was taken. I have returned them now so the hunt for the perfect pair of boots is back on. Its entirely unnecessary as I have too many shoes as it is but I always keep an eye out!

Nails | Nude Leopard

Barry M 'Lychee' and 'Greenberry' and China Glaze 'Smoke and Ashes'

So I might not dislike the Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine polishes as much as I had originally thought. They are growing on me. I definitely still hate the brush but the formula is good.

I recently picked up the nude shade otherwise known as 'Lychee'. It has fast become my new favourite nude. I've never really been a nude nail kind of girl but having been so busy the last couple of weeks I haven't had time to do anything very exciting or neat.
I feel like I can just slap on a nude polish without having to take too much care and it will still look relatively good.

I did just this last night. And as I had some spare time on my hands I decided to do some nail art. I haven't done anything very interesting lately as I just haven't had the time so I went back to basics and after seeing all the nail related pictures on my instagram from needlesandnailsbrighton yesterday I opted for leopard print.

Given that my black nail art pen had dried out I had to substitute for another black polish and a small dotting tool. I think it turned out alright but I find using a nail art pen a lot easier. With practice I'm sure this method would work just fine in the future.

I'm off uni for 3 weeks now so I will have a bit more time to try out some new designs.
Can't wait!

A Closer Look | Firmoo Glasses

I few days ago now I was lucky enough to be able to pick a pair of glasses from the range available at Firmoo.com. I opted for these medium sized black rectangular frames. They don't have a name but the style number is 'CP6073' should you wish to search fro them on the website.

I was most surprised about the price and quality. For frames and lenses these babies cost a mere $39. With the current exchange rate thats only £25.77. Even for your most basic frames with the addition of the price of lenses you couldn't really find that on the british high street.

Knowing how good quality they are I now am beyond tempted to order another pair. I have my eye one some round frames and should I decide to take the plunge it will almost certainly be checking Firmoo first.

If you want to try out a pair for free, yes FREE! Then you can place an order from this range for only the price of shipping. The range is limited but if you want to get the feel for the quality for only a few pounds its worth looking into.

Also f you want to see them live in action check out my video review here.

Photo Diary | Paris Day 4

So here is my final post on my time in Paris. We spent our last morning at a vintage flea market on the outskirts of the city. It was a bit of a bizarre experience if I am honest. It was a real eclectic mixture of items on offer from fake sportswear to taxidermy and furniture. It was great to look around at but everything was extremely overpriced. Almost ridiculously so.
I picked up nice little postcard for 3 euros but other than that I didn't make any grand purchases.

After a quick hot chocolate and a pastry we had to head back the hotel to collect our belongings and catch the Eurostar.

It was a great trip, and I love my food but I don't think I have ever eaten so much in such a short space of time. When I got back all I craved was a salad and something light. I ate enough bread and cake to last me a month!
