Where to find me

Photo Diary | Tea & Sympathy

Having been in the good old US of A for for 6 months now its getting to the point were I am really starting to miss things from home. One of the biggies being food. A few of my friends that are out here are also from the UK so we decided to indulge our cravings and head on over to Tea & Sympathy.

As soon as you step through the doors you feel like you are in an old english tea room. It reminds me a lot of places around where my grandmother lives in Kent. Very quaint indeed. The place is owned and ran by English people so it doesn't feel contrived or fake just very strange stepping from the streets of Greenwich Village New York into England in under 10 seconds

I opted for a (real!!) bacon sandwich and then apple crumble and custard. Not really two things that go together but the heart wants what it wants! Most deserts I have had here are served cold and it drives me mad! I want them warm! Cold apple pie just doesn't do it for me.
The food was delicious and really just what I needed after the past crazy and hectic few weeks.

The service however wasn't the best. It wasn't bad per say just felt rushed and unfriendly. Like we where in the way more than anything.

If you wish to purchase any British products or food they have a shop next door and aside that they have a chip shop called "A Salt and Battery" which I personally think is brilliant!

WishList | Ideal Outfit

Untitled #6
Top: Mango
Jacket: Acne Studios
Blazer: Monki
Jeans: Asos
Shoes: Cheap Monday
Glasses: Toms
Rings: H&M and Adina
Lipstick: Mac 'Russian Red'
Nail Polish: OPI 'Midnight in Moscow'

I have a couple of things from this outfit layout already. Sadly the Acne leather jacket is not one of them.
That one will be a bit of a pipe dream.
I have been on the lookout for a leather jacket like it for a seriously long time. I have come across a few in the last couple of years but none that I love as much. I know I'm never going to own that one but nothing else seems to quite measure up that is available in my price range.

The others however are more attainable. The shoes and jeans are two in particular I really want to have in my closet.
Even if its not these exact items I end up getting. I've had the idea in my head of acquiring some pointy toed boots or shoes and jeans with ripped knees for a while.

I think after I get home and maybe sell some bits and pieces and generally get my wardrobe and life together I may take the plunge!

Photo Diary | Views of the City

My friend lives in a really gorgeous 40th floor apartment with even more amazing views of Manhattan. I felt like I was in a film as soon as I walked through the door! It was one of those moments that it really hit me that I am in New York.

New Additions | Peter Pilotto for Target

What was I thinking?!
I couldn't get much further out of my comfort zone of simple plain monochrome clothes than the Peter Pilotto for Target collection. There where a few pieces that where more simple and toned down but I was inexplicably drawn to the crazy floral prints and decided to just go for it.
Its only clothes right?!

I would have regretted not getting a couple of things, I am a bit of a sucker for designer/highstreet collaborations. Being that I am in America I ordered directly from the Target website but I know friends who ordered from Net-a-Porter back home.

It may take some courage on my part to actually wear them out of the house and will be more of a challenge than my usual choices but I just thought why not!

Outfit | Marc Jacobs Fall 2014 Show

photo via The Cut

Top: H&M
Dress (seen as a skirt): Marc Jacobs (previous post featuring it)
Shoes: Zara
Watch: Calvin Klein
Rings: Vivienne Westwood, Vintage and Accessorizes
Earrings: Vivienne Westood
Nails: Sally Hansen 'Celeb City'

I asked my supervisor before the spring 14 show "What do I wear to a Marc Jacobs show?"
She jokingly replied 'Marc Jacobs'.
Last time I wore a very pain black american apparel dress. This time I wore a silver dress from the Fall 13 collection which I am lucky enough to now have in my possession.
Its halter-neck and backless and a bit too naked for me to feel comfortable in so I added a white blouse from H&M to cover my modesty.

I decided to throw on some heels. I pretty much only wear flats but if this isn't the occasion to dress up I don't really know what is. I picked them up on sale in Zara for $25 down from $100. You can't really see them in the pictures but I'm sure I will post about them in future.

I am also pretty happy that a picture of me and my friend at the after party found its way on to the New York Magazines Style Website 'The Cut' I am not named but am listed as Marc Jacobs Staff!
It just added to the surreal nature of the entire night.

The after party was amazing as well. I plan to try and pull together some pictures and post about that too. Mainly from my friends or borrow from The Cut as mine didn't turn out all too amazingly!

Marc Jacobs Fall 2014 Show

Bill Cuningham
Marc Jacobs
Anna Wintour
Just some of the pieces I worked on
Celeb Spotting
Sarah Paulson (the Supreme)
Joe Jonas and Alexa Chung
Hanneli Mustaparta and Miss Jay (Jay Alexander)
The always Amazing Grace Coddington

Where do I even start? The show was incredible. The entire night feels like I dreamed it, I am starting to ask myself if I was really there?  If I didn't have my pictures as proof I might not be sure.

I can't really put it to words what it felt like to see all the hard work, time and energy that we put into the collection be shown, shiny and finished presented on the world fashion stage.

In the office we work on broken up parts of the big picture. Garments here, fabrics there, trimmings, zippers, patterns, swatches and sketches. Seeing everything come together in such a beautiful way is a massive realisation of what we are all working towards.

I am coming near to the end of my internship and am getting a bit emotional and reflective but I could not be more honoured to be part of this collection and am so proud of everything I have done to help it come together. My part is small if course but every small job adds up.

The setting at the Armoury was stunning, clouds floated above the catwalk and Jessica Lange's voice accompanied the models as they looped around the (incredibly long) runway.

I was spotting people and snapping away from the sidelines, some of my pictures of the celebrities in attendance turned out to be less that perfect so some of my picture are borrowed from style.com. I would like to make it know that the GIFs are my own! It was amazing to see Bill Cunningham jump up off his chair next to Anna Wintour and start snapping away! Then to See Anna herself run off after Marc as he took his bow and the end of the show. I felt they couldn't be represented with still images.

I did see a fair few celebrities for myself, my fellow intern and I coincidentally where working on the sleeves of the dress Alexa ended up wearing to the show. And as I exited my cab outside the venue Bill Cunningham snapped my picture as I attempted to navigate my way around the slush lined streets and into the Armoury.
I still pinch myself thinking I'm even getting a glimpse into this surreal world.

It was capped off by seeing the brilliant Grace Coddington as she walked right by me smiling and laughing as she left the show.

I have two weeks left at Marc Jacobs and 4 weeks left in New York. Its not over yet but this is a pretty amazing way to help round things off.
